Oh Henry, what say ye?

Asheville, NC is no stranger to local brews and many of them are distributed to Charlotte. However, today while walking Biltmore Avenue, we stumbled across Wicked Weed - a brewery that I've not seen on tap in Charlotte.

Local breweries are great in their own right, but this historical wargamer was pleasantly surprised to find a bit of history mixed with this batch of water, barley, yeast, and hops. It turns out one notorious fellow from the 15th and 16th centuries was not too keen on hops. King Henry VIII declared that "hops are a wicked and pernicious weed” destined to ruin beer.

As it turns out, "independent brewers were driven by their rebel integrity to defy the king, embrace the hop and create beer for the untamed palate." Wicked Weed credits rebel integrity as a driving force behind their defiant beer. Find more information at http://www.wickedweedbrewing.com/

Oh, Canada!

Landed in Vancouver about 3 hours ago. Took the SkyTrain to Downtown and checked in to the hotel. A colleague and I went over to a local spot - a bit of an English pub perhaps. The Jameson's Chicken was awesome!

And the beer special - a local (to BC) brew - was a Russell Angry Scotch Ale. Scotch Ale, Irish Whiskey... What's not to like?
